Mobile Phones a la the Panopticon
The New York Times has an article that makes me feel like I'm living in William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy combined with the politics of Michel Foucault's panopticon. Parents (and anyone with the dollars) can pay a company to track the position of new mobile phones with GPS technology and new mobile phone chipsets. Want to know where your children are? Just click on your 'Wherify Wireless' account and your offspring appear as little green dots on a map! Get email alerts if your kids stray out of your digitally marked 'safe zones' ... it's all Big Brother from here!
