MacroVision is touting a new digital copyright protection system to prevent ripping from DVD, inventively called RipGuard. Of course, such a system will also prevent legitimate home backups for people who own their DVDs. That said, I wonder how long it'll take to get hacked? [Via /.]

Reuters: "Jazz composer Maria Schneider took home a Grammy on Sunday for her album "Concert in the Garden," without selling a single copy in a record store.
