NYTimes 2003 Best Books

Just in time for Christmas, the New York Times has released its influential Notable Books of 2003 lists. It's great to see Margaret Atwood's genetic engineering tale Oryx and Crake make the best fiction list, and I would have been surprised if William Gibson's excellent Pattern Recognition hadn't. I guess what was surprising was that neither was in the Science Fiction section! I was a bit surprised I hadn't read anything on this year's Best Non-Fiction list, but it is US-centric after all; apart from the usual re-workings of US history which always seem to sell well, there is a huge saturation of books dealing with 'Terrorism' and the War on Iraq (some of which I hope are actually critical!).
