MS Tunes ...

Microsoft is apparently picking up on the legal music download trend and plans to release a service soon ... in the US only. Australian IT reports:
MICROSOFT is set to enter the music download arena, but just as with Apple's iTunes, Australian fans will have to wait until the service becomes available locally. Microsoft plans to introduce a song-downloading service to the US next year. It will compete with similar offerings from Apple Computer, Roxio's Napster and others. In addition, Microsoft's Windows Media Player - software that plays music and video files on computers - is already pervasive, and can be easily adapted to facilitate an online music store from Microsoft. "The current (music) era has all the characteristics of a gold rush," said Phil Leigh, an independent industry analyst with Inside Digital Media.
Media Player certainly is pervasive, but do I really want to buy the music Bill Gates likes? I think not! :P It is an amusing image to think of him panning for gold in the digital ether, though!
