The Sims 2 & Gay Marriage Rights

A week ago WaterCoolerGames picked up the story that after initially supporting the idea, Maxis appear to have changed their mind and will not be allowing gay marriages in the upcoming Sims 2. (See Maxis' preliminary Sims 2 FAQ.) However, apart from the issues of freedom to marry whomever you choose, I'm finding the discussion in the comments section of the WaterCoolerGames post fascinating! it is being suggested that the Sims are innately bisexual or asexual and that being able to live in gay relationships without marriage is simply avoiding controversy and reflecting the laws of many Western (and most other) countries. These comments are a good and provocative read!
