Philosphical Sunday (Meme)
Okay, so it's Philosophical Sunday a la bingtek.com. This week's question is:
Well, to start with, I'd be very, very sad if that was the world I was living in. However, since we must play the scenario...
What Tama Thinks ...
Books
1. Sophie's world : a novel about the history of philosophy by Jostein Gaarder (1997). Introduces most of the big thinkers and ideas of recorded Western history in a pretty accessible and fun way.
2. Neil Gaiman's Sandman: Preludes and Noctures. Even though it's a graphic novel rather than a book, it draws upon so much of the mythology and history of our world, as well as being inspiring and painfully well written, so this would definitely be in the three.
3. A complete First Aid reference book. I want my child to live and these skills are essential!
Music
1. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen. Chosen simply because it has strong emotional ressonance for me, and I'd want my child to understand that.
2. Beethoven's complete Ninth Symphony (or, if only allowed a selection, the 'Ode to Joy' by itself). Speaks for itself, really; probably one of, if not the, best piece of music ever written.
3. Don McLean's 'American Pie'. A song which captures the hopes and fears that so many feel and is great to sing along with, too.
Other Sunday Silliness
Have you ever heard of Home Starr Runner? Well, I certainly hadn't. But I've just been introduced to it, and this site is funny. Every now and then, the character/persona 'Strong Bad' writes an email in the form of a funny little flash film. Some are just naff, but some are very, very funny. You *must* check out these three: How to make a Crazy Cartoon, Divas, and How to Write Email the StrongBad way. Have fun!

If you could only allow your child to read three books, and listen to three songs in their entire life, which books and songs would you choose and why?
